McNeal’s Historic Cottage was built in 1925 and has been owned by the same family for generations. This cottage was built on the foundation of a former home that was blown away in the hurricane of 1883. McNeal’s Historic Cottage is made of cypress that was harvested by the Argent Lumber Company in Hardeeville, South Carolina. This family home is a vintage Tybee vacation rental cottage. When you drive up through the oak and palm tree drive way you may park in front of the home. Parking is abundant!
Enjoy this wonderful 5 bedroom, multiple bath home with fabulous views and a huge wrap around porch. Walk under the beautiful oak trees and palms whispering in the breeze that welcome you to this 2.3 acre yard overlooking the dune and Atlantic Ocean. This beautiful home overlooks a dune, so your views are amazing. The dune structure is preserved, so you may not walk to the beach through the vegetation.
There are 2 stairwells to access the screened porch which is the main living level of the home. The staircase closest to Butler is most frequently used when you enter the home. You may want to sit on the porch and enjoy the breeze on the patio furniture, relax in the rockers or laze about in the large hammock. When you enter the porch closest to Butler, the kitchen door is immediately to the left. For generations, this has been the most frequently used entry to the home. There are 2 other entry doors from the porch.
The kitchen features original cypress cabinets painted “oyster white.” The original oversized cast iron sink speaks of decades of family meals. There is a pantry with cypress shelves for storage. The cabinets feature vintage hardware that generations have used for their family vacation. (The family asks that you please respect the vintage hardware throughout the home.)
The kitchen is small but very functional with huge windows allowing tons of light. A second stainless steel sink was added by the family with dishwasher to make clean up after a family meals a breeze. The kitchen features a stainless steel acrylic cooktop with stove, counter top microwave, stainless steel standard size refrigerator with built in ice maker, coffee maker, and toaster.
The living room and dining room combination are accessed by a small hallway from the kitchen. Step out onto the large porch from the living room and enjoy a sunrise.
The historic floor to ceiling windows throughout the home are simply stunning.
Living area includes sofas including a standard size sofa, love seat and occasional chair.
The dining table seats 6. There is a large flat screen television in the living area.
BEDROOM 1-The queen bedroom is off the small hallway between the kitchen and living room with vintage furnishings and a small flat screen television. The full bath with combination tub/shower is also off the hallway.
BEDROOM 2-When you walk past the dining area with fireplace the comfortable king master bedroom has views of the Atlantic Ocean. Retreat into the bedroom and watch a movie on the flat screen television. Enjoy nice ocean views through the floor to ceiling historic windows. Private half bath.
BEDROOM 3- The queen bedroom with twin bed adjoins the living room with flat screen television. It is just steps to the porch.
The lower level of the home is accessed under the stairwell closest to Butler Avenue. Open the carriage doors on either end of the open space and enjoy ocean breezes.
*There is not access to the upstairs from the lower level. You must go outside and access the exterior stairs to enter the upstairs.
2 bedrooms off the “game room” area downstairs for the kids.
BEDROOM 4-One bedroom has twin beds and a window air conditioning unit.
BEDROOM 5- 2 sets of twin bunks (sleeps 4) and a window air conditioning unit.
The washer and dryer for the home are on the ground level.
On the ground level are 2 separate shower and changing rooms. A separate half bath is also convenient for Guests visiting downstairs or staying overnight on the lower level.
Play table tennis in the “game room” or sit back and enjoy some quiet time at the indoor/outdoor settee.
Adirondack chairs may be enjoyed outdoors (4) and there is a gas grill for outdoor meal preparation.
Beach Access to the left of the home for the neighborhood, and is a 2-3 walk to the beach.
