Who you calling a “Beach Bum?”

Every year since 1987, Tybee Island has held it’s annual Beach Bum Parade which is traditionally held in May. The parade route comes down Butler Avenue, and when parade floats come by onlookers have been know n to shoot each other with water. Each year the event is held rain or shine, and seems to grow in popularity with each event. Oceanfront Cottage Rentals manages several homes that are right along the parade route however, each year you can see us posted at either #2 2nd Avenue or #4 2nd Avenue with our water hoses, water pistols, and trash cans filled to the brim with our “ammunition” waiting on passers by.
It is a fun family friendly event used to mark the start of the summer season, and is a refreshing break from the norm.
Here are the rules: “Water balloons, buckets and pressure washers are prohibited and considered dangerous. No ice water. Restrict your targets to parade participants and on-lookers only. Do not attempt to aim your hose or water gun at a police officer. Residents and visitors are asked to use common sense in choosing and soaking your targets. It is illegal to open car doors or homes to spray inside. By following these guidelines, everyone can have a great time!”
