How to plan the perfect Labor Day weekend on Tybee Island.

For many people, Labor Day weekend is considered the unofficial last weekend of Summer. This three day weekend is also another excuse to plan a  trip to the beach!

One of the biggest celebrations on the Georgia coast happens right here on Tybee Island.

Planning your holiday weekend should be easy, so we want to pitch in and share our tips on how to make the most of your Tybee Labor Day weekend.

#1. Book A Beach Home Rental!

Are you spending the weekend with just a few friends or inviting the whole family? Chances are, Oceanfront Cottage Rentals will have the perfect vacation rental home to offer you. Check out the availability here or contact a Vacation planner now. 912-786-0054 Availability will not last long!

#2. You’re going to need groceries!

A Labor Day weekend is not complete without firing up the grill. Make sure you have everything you need to prepare snacks and meals throughout the weekend by visiting one of the local grocery stores. If you would prefer to skip the lines, Tybee Island’s IGA also offers Grocery delivery!

#3. Rent beach equipment and bikes!

One of the many great things about Tybee is that you can get everywhere by bike. Tim’s Beach Gear and Burke’s Beach Gear rentals offer bike and beach gear rentals. They will also deliver and set up your gear.

#4. Put on your dancing shoes!

That’s right, grab your dancing shoes (or flip flops will do). There will be a live band performing on the Tybee Pier and Pavillion. The performances will include covers of beach music that the whole family will recognize.

#5. Plan to take lots of pictures!

Make sure your phone is charged because you are going to want to capture all the memories of this weekend. You’ll definitely want to plan on taking pictures under the fireworks display that will take place on Tybee’s south beach.

Staying on Tybee for Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day

savannahstpatricksdayontybeeisland

Our Sister City, Savannah, Georgia hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in the world.  A Savannah St. Patrick’s Day is an experience that you will remember for a lifetime. Since Tybee is only 12-15 minutes from downtown Savannah and there is festive Trolley Transportation, we recommend staying on the beach for your Savannah St. Pat’s Day experience!  Continue reading “Staying on Tybee for Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day”

Top Reasons Why You Should Visit Tybee Island This Fall!

A few members of our Oceanfront Cottage Rentals Team pick the Top Reasons Why You Should Visit Tybee Island This Fall.

Fall on the island is really just “another day at the Beach” for locals. The weather is usually perfect with warm days, slightly cooler evenings and 80-degree ocean water. Whether you are coming for a weekend at the beach or one of Savannah/Tybee’s fall festivals, you will fall in love with Tybee in the Fall.

“Tybee’s Fall season is my favorite time of year on the island. It begins to cool off and the beach is less crowded. You can walk out on North beach and have the whole beach to yourself.
When I come to the beach, it is not to tan. It is to wander and walk the shoreline. Coming in the Fall is so much more relaxing for me just watching the waves, and collecting shells. It is very soul soothing and can make you more appreciative of all the good in life.
My favorite event occurs in October; this is called Pirate’s Fest. Everyone dresses like pirates and it is the most fun! It begins with a “fancy” Crab Shack Buccaneer’s Ball where they crown a King and Queen of Pirate’s Fest. A parade is held that weekend, and there are bands playing on the South end. There are also many shops selling unique “pirate” gear. For the kids, there is an area for them,  (Lil’ Matey’s Cove) with small carnival rides and a petting zoo for maximum fun. My child is almost 3 and I can’t wait until she is a little older to enjoy this event with me!”

Fall on Tybee Island is just as great as the summertime! My favorite thing to do on Tybee in the fall is to come down with family or friends and enjoy a meal at our favorite restaurant, AJ’s Dockside! Enjoying the nice views, and the cool weather is a perfect fall day on Tybee! To top it off, we like to grab an ice cream from the Sugar Shack and take a walk on the historic Tybee pier to see if we can spot dolphins!”

Experiencing the Holidays on Tybee

Holidays are better at the beach!

Sometimes, Thanksgiving and Christmas can be a stressful time of the year. We scramble last minute to prepare a Thanksgiving feast, we fight lines and crowds at the mall to ensure everyone gets what they want for Christmas, and even when we manage to get all the gifts and food prepared, often we still have an unsatisfied family member or two!

We have the perfect solution!

Tybee Island’s winter is randomly interspersed with warm and sunny days, so it’s the perfect place to escape the winter blues. Why not spend the holidays here? The sound of the waves crashing against the shore is absolutely tranquilizing and melts away the stress of the holidays.

We believe everyone in the family will be a lot more relaxed at the beach. The atmosphere on Tybee during off-season is even more laid back than summer (if you can imagine that!) It is mostly locals and families staying at this time. The winter months slow down the pace here on the island, and there will be times where it feels like you have to beach all to yourself. Being on the ocean has a natural, calming effect on us.

Not only will everyone be more zen over the holidays on the island, but there are still plenty of fun things to do here to keep everyone entertained. In fact, there is so much to do here over the holidays, there’s an entire website dedicated to it: Tybee for the Holidays
