For many people, Labor Day weekend is considered the unofficial last weekend of Summer. This three day weekend is also another excuse to plan a trip to the beach!
One of the biggest celebrations on the Georgia coast happens right here on Tybee Island.
#1. Book A Beach Home Rental!

#2. You’re going to need groceries!
A Labor Day weekend is not complete without firing up the grill. Make sure you have everything you need to prepare snacks and meals throughout the weekend by visiting one of the local grocery stores. If you would prefer to skip the lines, Tybee Island’s IGA also offers Grocery delivery!
#3. Rent beach equipment and bikes!
One of the many great things about Tybee is that you can get everywhere by bike. Tim’s Beach Gear and Burke’s Beach Gear rentals offer bike and beach gear rentals. They will also deliver and set up your gear.
#4. Put on your dancing shoes!
That’s right, grab your dancing shoes (or flip flops will do). There will be a live band performing on the Tybee Pier and Pavillion. The performances will include covers of beach music that the whole family will recognize.
#5. Plan to take lots of pictures!
Make sure your phone is charged because you are going to want to capture all the memories of this weekend. You’ll definitely want to plan on taking pictures under the fireworks display that will take place on Tybee’s south beach.
The icy swim meet on Jan 1st of each year is often called “The Polar Plunge”. It is often thought that this event means that if you survive the icy waters that you can meet any challenge that comes your way in the New Year.
Thursday, October 4th is the Buccaneer Ball at the Crab Shack.
This event is a big party filled with food, live entertainment, and introductions of the 2018 Pirate King and Queen. Purchase your Tickets Here.
Friday, October 5th begins the Festival on the South End of Tybee.
Thieves Market, Little Matey’s Cove (petting zoo, bouncy house, carnival, magic show and much more), and LIVE music performances begin at 6 pm at the Sweetwater Beer Garden Stage.
Saturday, October 6th the fun continues. FIREWORKS!
Thieves Market, Little Matey’s Cove and the fun on the South end will continue. This year will be the introduction of Beach Water Battle!!
1-2 pm is the Kids and Pet Costume Contest.
3 pm-5 pm is the Annual Pirate’s Parade! Sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
6 pm is the Adult Costume Contest, followed by music and more on the Sweetwater Beer Garden Stage. The festivities will continue into the night and end with a spectacular Fireworks display over the Atlantic Ocean.
Sunday, October 7th
Little Matey’s Cove and Carnival opens back up with more exciting family-friendly experiences.

The Swingin’ Medallions! Who doesn’t love FREE live entertainment? This year the Swinging Medallions will perform on Sunday September 3rd from 7-10:30pm. We recommend you grab your favorite weekend beverage and head to the pier to check out this infamous band. They are known for their covers of classic beach music from the Beach Boys and many more!
Tybee Island Fireworks! Tybee Island will have a Firework display unlike any place in the world on Sunday! This Firework display will take place over the ocean with the summer stars in the background. We promise you will never forget this holiday spectacle!
BACON FEST! September 1-4th is Savannah’s Bacon Fest on River Street. Know any Bacon lovers? Take the short 15-minute trip to Savannah for all that is Bacon!
Beach Weather! The Sand in between your toes! Warm weather and warm water equal the perfect beach day!
BYE BYE SUMMER! Unfortunately, for most people, Labor Day weekend is the last big blow out of the summer. (Disclaimer: Not for us native Tybee folks!)
